When Nothing Seems to Fit on Easter…

In this world, we try to make things ideal.

The way we think is best.

We measure. We analyze.

Calculated reasoning to ensure the most desirable outcome.

But sometimes things just don’t seem to fit.

And when they don’t…when they don’t make sense, we feel ill-at-ease.

Restless.

Sometimes it’s our clothes.

Too tight.  Too loose.  Too much.

We want things to be… “just right”.

Like Goldilocks.

Or maybe it’s in our attitudes.

After trying on five different perspectives, nothing seems suitable.

We’ve tried on the anger.  Then the judgement. Added a jacket of resentment.  How about an accessory or two?

Envy.  Maybe bitterness.

Too often we select these items from our thought wardrobe.

Outfits that are sure to diminish our purpose. These garments that perpetuate doubt, fear, and limitation.

Restricting.

Confining.

But God joins us in those uncomfortable spaces.

Spaces where things really don’t fit.

Lines are blurred and we step further into discomfort.

Days in middle age when those tiny hands no longer wrap warmly, and gently around our finger.

Dependent and small.

Kisses are no longer enough to take away the hurt from words that wound a tender heart.

The picture books and nursery rhymes aren’t adequate to satisfy the inquisitive, and searching adolescent mind.

Who do we become when our children no longer need us?

Emma in blanketbunnies

Years spent wandering single, in a ‘couples’ world.

Breathing deeply as the weeks pass, watching others laughing and loving in a marriage.

Desiring companionship.

Foregoing the galas and parties. Unable to bear the thought of mingling in the crowd ~ only to be left without a dance partner once again.

Longing to be seen and cherished.

Will we continue to find the strength to navigate this lonely life?

Thoughts and ideas way outside the box. Notions that don’t align in a ‘standardized’ world.

How do you keep from slipping away when there isn’t anyone who shares you’re perspective?

When the pain outgrows your heart and you’re spilling emptiness into a space that no one even knows exists.

Your viewpoint too much, too big, too over-the-top for everyday conversation.

Instead, you keep your thoughts pressed and tied neatly with a bow.

Holding it together.  Holding it all tucked inside.

How do we become ourselves and not get hurt ~ our hearts so exposed?

Somewhere between discontent and the Cross there is Sacred space.

A place occupied by Grace.

This is serenity. A peace found only in our surrender.

Our places of beautiful brokenness.

Beautiful because this is where Jesus enters.

When we are broken with the pain of not fitting in, Christ offers us relief.

He offers us the gift of Easter.

The gift of everlasting Life.

Hope delights.

Joy ensues.

His triumphant defeat over death.

God’s Amazing Love came down from Heaven when that stone was rolled away from the tomb on the third day.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

He came to show us that we will ALWAYS fit into His plan.

We will forever align with His calling.

That our purpose is not of this world, of physical limitation.

Rather, we were created to reach out beyond ourselves ~ in Christ.

We need not fit into any mold.

Made simply to walk in the path He lovingly carved out, just for us.

He is there in all of Creation that surrounds us.

The marvelous whispers of His great Love.

This Easter, I pray that you may find your comfort in Christ.

For when we try to fit into this world, we will consistently be left with sharp edges around us.

The imperfections of relationships that don’t satisfy.

The painful ridges of life’s wanderings and disappointments.

Tiny bruises and cuts ~ leaving wound marks on our souls.

But, because of this Wondrous day…

We are given the opportunity for sweet surrender.

At the foot of the Cross.

There we find that the true JOY of this world comes only from knowing Him.

The only one-size-fits-all kind of love.

Beyond our ability to fathom. Surpassing the greatest longings of our hearts.

We can know Peace amidst the chaos of this physical world.

So as we surrender our sadness and loss.

As we let go of our loneliness.

As we submit to the limitations of this world.

We discover His arms.

His arms outstretched on the Cross.

For His is the only perfect Love that we will ever know.

Those same arms Risen this day, are waiting to hold us.

The exactly contoured to our hearts, always secure, and forever free embrace of our Glorious Savior.

The Messiah.

Prince of Peace.

Light of the World.

King of Kings.

Resurrection and Life.

The Lamb.

Our Jesus.
